RICK CARTER

Rick Carter

Rick Carter calls Birmingham, Alabama home. In 1977, he was a founding member of his first nationally recognized band, Telluride. Telluride ruled the bar-band circuit for years, resulting in being voted Birmingham’s Best Band six years in a row.

After 27 years on the road, Telluride stopped touring and Rick co-founded Rollin’ in the Hay, a forerunner of the “New Grass” revolution in America. They toured the country, drawing enormous crowds, & their fans, known as “Hayheads”, successfully voted for them to play the 2012 Bonnaroo Festival.

Rick has also played and collaborated with some of the most influential artists of our time, including Greg Allman, Johnny Shines, Widespread Panic, Dave Matthews, Alabama, Del McCoury, Jason Isbell, Bob Dylan, The B 52’s, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, ZZ Top, Jimmy Hall, Nicky Hopkins, John Fogarty, Willie Nelson, The Marshall Tucker Band, as well as many others.

Rick is a prolific songwriter, with four solo albums to his credit, as well as his latest tribute series to his favorite singer/songwriters.

The Alabama Music Hall of Fame has bestowed the honor of “Music Achiever” to Rick on three occasions…for his individual accomplishments, as well as for his role in, both, Telluride and Rollin’ in the Hay. Rick also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Birmingham Area Musicians’ Association in 2007 and has been tagged as “The Hardest Working Man in Music”.

On February 22, 2022, Rick expanded his artistic accomplishments with the release of his first book, followed by an extensive book tour. “Fables and Stories-Tales from an Alabama Troubadour” is his collection of short stories, one-liners, poetry, song lyrics, and prose.

Rick’s newest endeavor is as founder and leader of The Alabama Troubadours in a celebration of the music of John Prine. As a writer, performer, band leader, artist, & entrepreneur, Rick Carter is an Alabama tradition.

DONNA HALL

Donna Hall

Donna Hall, sister of Jimmy and Jack Hall, calls Mobile, Alabama home. She is an original member of the group Wet Willie, and is best known as one of the background singers called The Williettes. Her distinctive gospel-inspired voice can be heard on the Wet Willie albums.

She was fortunate to have been associated with Capricorn Records in the seventies in Macon, GA,

and sang back up with many Capricorn artists, including the Marshall Tucker Band, Bonnie Bramlett, Gregg Allman, and Grand Funk Railroad.

Her album credits include “good singin’ good playin’” by Grand Funk Railroad, “Forever Young” by Kitty Wells, “The Marshall Tucker Band” by Marshall Tucker Band, “Volunteer Jam” by Charlie Daniels, & “5 Will Get You 10” by Cowboy, to name a few.

Donna is proud to be a member of the Georgia Music Hall of Fame, as well as the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. She continues to perform with Wet Willie, and as a special guest with many other well-known musicians, all while touring with Rollin’ in the Hay and The Alabama Troubadours.

STAN FOSTER

Stan Foster

Stan Foster grew up in Camden Arkansas, where he sang in church and school choirs. His biggest musical influence was The Beatles, which led him to study voice at Southern Arkansas University. Stan later moved to Birmingham, Alabama where he honed his skills through local gigs, while working days at a large music store.

Tapped for a touring job as bassist/ vocalist for Rollin’ in the Hay in 1994, Foster has continued playing full time ever since. Stan performed on the Southern Rock Cruise and Rock Legends Cruise, and has shared the stage with Artemis Pyle Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, Jimmy Hall, The Kentucky Headhunters, and many others.

Stan moved to Mobile, Alabama in 2006, with his wife, Donna Hall, of Wet Willie fame. There he performs in several groups, including the wildly popular duo of Phil & Foster, when not touring with Rollin’ in the Hay and The Alabama Troubadours.

He has been voted “Best Local Bassist” by the Mobile public from 2018-2021.

WILLIAM ‘MOOSE’ HARRELL

 William 'Moose' Harrell

William ‘Moose’ Harrell was born in Fairfield, Alabama, home of rusting steel mills and working class folks. Despite growing up in a house filled with jazz and show tunes, the Americana chord ran deep.  After a chance meeting with brother Troubadour Rick Carter in 1974 at a picnic table at the University of South Alabama, a decades-long partnership would follow, first with the band Highway, then with the perennial fan favorite Telluride.

After moving to Nashville in the late 80’s, Moose followed his heart with stints in several roots acts such as the Thieves, the American Steel Band, Kevin Montgomery, Jeff Finlin, and Jason Ringenberg. Some career highlights include performing in bands with some of the all-time keyboard greats, including Larry Knechtel, Matt Rollings, and Nicky Hopkins, and with blues legend Johnny Shines.

As the dream continues, Moose is proud to bring lap steel, guitars and vocals to the Alabama Troubadours!
